Synovate boosts youth research capabilities in Asia Pacific with full acquisition of The Filter Group
4 October 2005
HONG KONG — Global market research company Synovate today announced its full acquisition of youth marketing agency, The Filter Group.
The Filter Group (Filter) is a youth trend research agency that specialises in understanding and marketing to the new generation of urban Asians.
Tim Balbirnie, Chief Executive Officer of Synovate Asia Pacific said that Filter will form the basis for Synovate's youth research offering in the region – part of the recently created global specialist unit called Synovate YC.
"Synovate already had partial ownership – 25 per cent – of the company, but we felt the youth research market had so much potential that we wanted to ensure our full involvement in and commitment to what we see as a stellar future.
"We are delighted to have inherited a well-developed client base around the region and some of the best ideas in youth marketing," he said.
Filter was started in 2000 by Ian Stewart and Stuart Wason. The company will integrate with Synovate over the coming months, with full integration as Synovate YC expected by the end of 2005.
Ian Stewart becomes the head of Synovate YC in Asia, based in Bangkok. Stuart Wason has decided to pursue new interests and will remain in Singapore.
Mr Stewart said that the early integration into Synovate creates a fantastic opportunity.
"This allows us to take Filter's past five years of youth research expertise to a global level. Our regional clients will have access to even greater reach and scope – and Synovate's clients will have immediate access to our specialist knowledge of young, urban Asians, a key target group for many marketers," he said.
