UK retailers suffer at the hands of Portugal
3 7月 2006
UNITED KINGDOM — Retail research group Synovate Retail Performance's Retail Traffic Index™ (RTI™) figures for what proved to be England's final game of this World Cup show that Saturday was not only a disappointment on the field in Germany, but also in British shops. Figures released by Synovate Retail Performance today show that the Retail Traffic Index registered a 16.7% drop on shopper traffic on the previous Saturday (24th June).
Dr Tim Denison, Director of Knowledge Management at Synovate Retail Performance commented; "The glorious weather and the start of many retailers' Summer Sales failed to encourage shoppers out of their armchairs or local bars and into the shops yesterday. This won't have come as too big a surprise to retailers who, with the exception of the grocery and off-license trade, have been suffering at the hands of the World Cup, particularly on the last Saturday when England played.
"Few would have hoped for England to fail again at the quarter-finals, but retailers nevertheless will perhaps see that even the gloom of this early exit has a silver lining and hope that they will see a quick bounce back in the number of shoppers."
Note
